Alyn is a 25-year-old architect, originally from Glasgow, who has been living in Manchester since January. He also attended both the Friday and Saturday Industrial Resolution events.

“I think there were better acts on the Saturday,” he decides. “And it was sold out, it was pretty packed. The music on Friday was a bit more varied whereas on Saturday it was just house and techno, more or less, and it worked a wee bit better with the venue. And I thought Fatboy Slim was pretty good. I'd not seen him before.”

What did you think of the visual element of the show?

“I was well impressed by all that. It was probably one of the highlights of the gig for me. I didn't actually hear much about it beforehand but when I got there I was really surprised by it, that they'd managed to get something that big in there.”

“We usually go to smaller venues but I like big things like this. The bigger the better. When I'm in Glasgow, I usually try to go to the Arches, which is a pretty big venue.”

Although he knows “there's been quite a lot going on” at Manchester International Festival, Alyn has been too busy with work to see much of it.

“We went to that Monkey thing,” he says. “I quite liked it. Most of the people I was with didn't but I don't go to the theatre much, so I was quite impressed generally, with the whole thing. I think it's the second time I've been to the theatre and the first time was crap, so I thought Monkey was pretty good.”

As a recent newcomer to the city, what do you like about Manchester?

“I like going into pubs and meeting people who seem like they've just stepped out of Shameless,” he laughs. “I like those little pubs that you get. You go in and it's like somebody's house, somebody's living room. There are pictures on the wall and there's a fireplace, and you have rooms with no bar in them.

“You don't really get that in Glasgow.”
