For All the Wrong Reasons

04/07/07

Filmmaker and arts administrator Suhail, 23, went to the preview of For All The Wrong Reasons, the challenging new work from Belgian director and choreographer Lies Pauwel, at Contact last night. So what did the city's movers and shakers make of this specially commissioned, semi-improvised tale of “parties and death, childhood and obscenity, humour and sadness”?

“There was a little bit of, 'what's that about?'” says Suhail. “And a bit of, 'That's very nice, isn't it?' There are five characters, each with their own way of looking at things. Divine David was in it. And there was a small person who was good as the jumping bunny rabbit. There were a few anarchic undertones.”

Although he hasn't had the chance to get to many events so far, Sunhail said he is hoping to see Il Tempo del Postino and Interiors. Suhail has noticed the impact the festival is having on the city and beyond.

“It's a well publicised event and people seem to be talking about it everywhere, not just in the city, all over. There is a feeling that it will bring real benefits to the city, rather than just selling it as a bit of a superficial commodity."
