For All the Wrong Reasons

As Monday arrived, it became clear that those with 9-5 jobs didn't necessarily have to miss out on the festival celebrations. The daytime allowed attendees of the festival to meander round the various permanent exhibitions and art installations, and in the evening they could get themselves down to the Contact theatre for a piece called 'For All The Wrong Reasons'.

The performance art piece centred on numerous taboo subjects in society: mental illness, prostitution, racism, disability, paedophilia, drug addiction, asylum seekers...

To be honest, the subject matter screams of cliché and although I willed the writer to be more inventive most of it lacked exploration. However, There were moments that were witty and well timed – one in particular involved a lengthy venomous speech said with perfect diction and vigour, spoken by the dwarf actress whose performance art skills amazed all throughout.

Although this was not my favourite event of the week, it provided a welcome break from the action of the rest of the week. The seats were comfy, the piece wasn't painfully lengthy and I did manage to stay fully tuned-in to the whole performance.
